The Chinese word "He" in ancient times meant musical concord. It was later expanded to include the meaning of "harmony" and "peace". The performance begins with Along the River During the Qingming Festival in which the classical and restrained duet of xiao and guzheng gives an allegorical tone, accompanied by the gracefulness of the water sleeves in Chinese dance. In Wing Spirit, the unrestrained pipa and the elegant string quartet blend wonderfully together to show a perfect union of the diversity of musical instruments. Through the pipa performance of The Conqueror Unarms, the gripping historical scenes of the commanding Xiang Yu, the Hegemon-King of Western Chu and his later state of desolation when he was abandoned and surrounded by enemies from all directions were validly revealed.
