Hua-yen Sūtra – Chanting in the Ink
Studio Theatre, Hong Kong Cultural Centre
4-5/12/2010

Presented & Produced by Zuni Icosahedron

Through the installation Ink Pond - Si Shu Xi, Zuni will create a space for the scripture, dharma, voice and sound relating to the Hua-yen Sūtra to interact with each other. The multimedia elements of the performance will emerge once again as texts, chanting, music and images.Calligrapher Tong Yang-tze will transform the Sanskrit letters in the Hua-yen Sūtra into calligraphy by writing each one on a square piece of paper, which will form the basic components of the interactive multimedia presentation. Infused with the live chanting of the Sanskrit letters in the Hua-yen Sūtra, music of Yu Yat-yiu and multimedia design of Mathias Woo, the audience will find themselves immersed in the ambience, sound, colour, scent and temperature surrounding the Ink Pond, and will come to reflect on the verse from the Sūtra: "All things are created by the mind".
